The add-on mirrors what the student's home district would have earned under the state special-education formula for the instructional setting written into the IEP. Large districts earn slightly less per code than small ones, so a child's address changes the figure even when the IEP is identical.
For 2026-27, a Dallas ISD student coded 40 (mainstream with supports) is funded at $16,757. The same code is worth $17,051 in Plano ISD, $16,941 in Garland ISD, $16,893 in Richardson ISD and $17,204 in Frisco ISD. Resource and self-contained codes in Dallas ISD come to $15,681, and the residential-facility codes reach $25,500.
A speech-only IEP (code 00) adds the least: $911 in Dallas ISD, for a total of $11,385. Small districts sit at the other end. In Blue Ridge ISD, a small Collin County district, a mainstream code reaches $19,446.
What counts is the IEP itself, not a private evaluation. Families who suspect a disability should ask their public school district for a full individual evaluation early, because the IEP has to be on file before the application window closes. Homeschool students with an IEP receive the $2,000 account.

Totals are the $10,474 base plus the district add-on from the Comptroller's 2026-27 Special Education Funding Table, capped at $30,000. Funded counts come from the TEFA Annual Demographic Report (data as of July 29, 2026); districts with fewer than 30 participants aren't listed in that report. All Dallas-area districts →
Combining it with other sources
Few Dallas families pay with one source alone. This one generally stacks with a school's own discounts and need-based aid and with at least one other source on our funding list, and the funding check lays out the combination that fits your child.
