On the TEFA waitlist in Dallas: paying for this year, preparing for next

Fewer than a third of North Texas applicants got an account in year one. If your child is still waiting, here's how Dallas families are covering this school year and positioning for the next.

You'll have to reapply

Unfunded applicants don't roll over. The Legislature convenes January 12, 2027 and will decide year-two funding, and the Comptroller hasn't announced 2027-28 dates.

Siblings first

In year two, siblings of current participants are placed ahead of new applicants. If one of your children was funded and another wasn't, the second child's odds improve a lot.

Catholic families

The Diocese of Dallas Catholic Schools Office Tuition Assistance Program runs on its own calendar through FACTS. Last cycle the priority round for current families closed Dec. 20 and the regular round closed Mar. 20.

Other schools

Press schools on need-based aid, compare partner church schools, and keep an eye out for North Texas scholarship organizations under the federal tax credit beginning in January 2027.

Homeschool bridge

Dallas County homeschoolers past eighth grade can take tuition-waived dual credit at Dallas College, which keeps a high schooler moving while you wait.

Keep the seat

Many Dallas private schools hold re-enrollment in January and February. Tell your school you plan to reapply so it can plan around a mid-year award.

Next step

Start the funding check. It takes about two minutes, and an advisor will follow up with every source your family is eligible for and the deadlines attached to each.
